  about the NJDOT office

The goal of the Office of Bicycle & Pedestrian Programs at the New Jersey Department of Transportation is to give the citizens of New Jersey real, non-motorized transportation options. We provide engineers and designers with technical advice on how to create a transport system that is good for everyone, not just motorists. We review new road projects on the state system to ensure the accommodation of bicyclists and pedestrians. Our consultants provide planning assistance to help communities across the state provide safe and accessible bicycle and pedestrian facilities. In addition, we participate in outreach programs at school functions and conferences to extol the healthy virtues of bicycling and walking and to provide tips on how to do so safely. Through these and many other efforts, we work every day to give people the option to leave their cars behind and still get to where they need to go, all while leading healthier lives. NJDOT provides funding for the New Jersey Bicycle and Pedestrian Resource Project at the Voorhees Transportation Center.
